Thinkable Digital has launched a brand new competition, giving entrants the chance to win a full social media evaluation from its team of experts

The competition entitled: ‘Guess the Campaign‘, can be accessed through Facebook, where participants will be shown a picture from a well-known successful social media campaign. If you can guess which brand it represents, you will be in with a chance of winning a complete social media evaluation worth £500. Two runners up will receive a full Twitter evaluation, with all three winners featured on Thinkable Digital’s Facebook page, with links to their individual profiles.

Benefits of a Social Media Evaluation

A thorough social media evaluation will usually result in more networking and traffic to your content. Increased social media presence should also result in more visits and engagements to your site. It will strengthen your personal/professional reputation and credibility.

Here are five tips for a successful social media strategy.

1) Assessment

Assessment will help you evaluate what you want to achieve from your social media strategy.

Identify metrics and monitoring opportunities. Basic monitoring tools such as Google Alerts will help you record the success of your campaign strategy. If your campaign is awareness, you can measure growth, engagement, brand awareness, sharability, likes and subscribes through various social media tools.

If it is sales you are interested in then checking click rates, social e-commerce sales and conversion rates will provide a good monitoring tool and if your campaign strategy focuses on loyalty, you can look into engagement, sentiment and influence.

Monitoring overall trends is also important when it comes to assessing interaction.

2) Be Interesting

Keep your social media strategies and campaigns compelling and diverse. Your audience will be more likely to return and comment on your content if it is fresh and interesting. This comes down to relating to your audience to a certain extent and understanding what they want to see, but innovative ways of using social media can also be very effective.

Social media platforms such as Foursquare offer a new dimension to field marketing. Foursquare is a location based tool, which allows users to share, recommend and save the places they visit. It can also be used to advertise a company campaign. For example you could post on Foursquare an event your company is hosting and then get your audience to review and share it.

3) Strengthen Relationships

Integration with your audience is an essential social media strategy. When you share content on social media platforms, it can be a good idea to include an interactive tie-in, like: ‘What should’ve made the list?’ or ‘Who did we miss?’ for list posts.

This type of tactic can promote your content, while gaining a valuable insight into your audiences’ needs at the same time.

Conversations can be arranged through social media platforms like a Google+ Hangout. Here up to ten people can comment and express their views on a host of topics, including your brand.

Make it as easy as possible for your audience to share your content. An effective way of doing this is by putting multiple share tools on all articles. It can be helpful to keep these unobtrusive so they do not detract from your content. Avoid using large buttons with large counters, as it is important to remember that social media is not about numbers, it’s about making content more useful.

Comments tools on articles are another way for your audience to interact with you. If you are operating a small business and don’t have the staff to monitor your own system, consider a system such as Disqus.

Widgets on all story pages with the latest comments or listing the most commented, shared, viewed stories is another way for your audience to comment on your content.

4) Know Your Audience

It is important to clarify your audience’s, challenges and needs. You can use tools, such as Google Docs or Survey Monkey to survey your customers.

You can assess the demographic and psychographic characteristics of your current or prospective customers. Once you have done this, ask yourself how that impacts what you can and should attempt in social media?

Knowing your audience is the first step to developing a successful social media strategy. A study of who your followers follow and what content they engage with can be very beneficial. It is also essential to understand what your audience expects from you and what will interest them. This way you should be able to create content they will enjoy.

5) Be Honest

Make sure that any promises that you make are kept. Good content isn’t fake, it’s honest and human. Good content also has a personality and it will be socially focused.

Fake or poor content will be flagged up by your audience, usually because they won’t engage with it. This will affect your business as your audience will not recommend it to friends.
